History Talks

Interesting and informative History Talks are conducted on the first Saturday of every second month starting in February.

Our next History Talk on Saturday 8 June at 2pm will be given by two members of Buderim-Palmwoods Heritage Tramway Inc, President Helene Cronin and Vice-President Noel Williams.

FIRST CONSTABLE STATIONED AT PALMWOODS

On 27 November 1913, a letter was sent to Jas Forsythe MLA from the Queensland Farmers Union to the Home Secretary’s Office applying for a Constable to be stationed at Palmwoods.

It read: ‘The tramway to Buderim Mountain is being constructed from here and consequently a great number of navies are working here, which in itself should be sufficient need to station a Constable here.  Drunken men lay about the street Sunday and every other day and the language is not English. After 6pm this town is cut off from Nambour by telephone.’

Constable Wilson arrived with his Troop Horse “Ecuador” and settled down to business in January 1914.  The station was operating only while the tramway was built to Buderim. The station was closed on 16 January 1915 and moved to Mapleton for approximately two months where that line was under construction. Constable Wilson had an interesting but unfortunately short life

Grants

Our organization would not be able to function effectively without the support that we receive from grants and donations. Our recurrent costs and some project costs are covered by grants.

Proudly Supported by the Sunshine Coast Council’s grants program

The Buderim Foundation have assisted us several times with grants for specific equipment items, the latest being a fireproof safe for the secure storage of historic documents.
